In Japan there is a huge amount of food being wasted in markets, restaurants and own households. Every day the average amount of waste produced by one person could fill up a whole rice bowl. To reduce as much food waste as possible in my own household, I decided to work on reusing waste products at home and converted them into something more beneficial to the environment. (this was also part of a summer optional assignment from my biology teacher!) I first gathered products that I could reuse such as seeds from vegetables (I personally used tomato, cucumber, and eggplant) and then simply put them in a wet cotton pad until the seed sprouted. After they had sprouted, I put them in a pot with soil and watered them everyday! The outcome was fantastic! I was able to harvest more than 30 mini tomatoes, 4 egg plants and 5 cucumbers from the experiment which not only saved money but also helped reduce waste created in my own household. This project is something you could easily do at home even during quarantine which would help improve our environment immensely🍀
